In this issue, we take a look at conditions of a coastal area building project during the heat of the CoVID pandemic, and why a pre-engineered steel building is the preferred option.

First and foremost, pre-engineered steel buildings can be engineered to withstand wind forces of up to 170 mph. We have mentioned this in an earlier issue of eNOVA, considering southeast Asia as a typhoon-prone and coastal region.

Durability is the next key consideration for building owners in this region. A steel building can survive for decades with little maintenance because steel is impervious to many extreme weather conditions. It is pest-proof and rot-proof; It can be fire-proof and “upcycled” (i.e. recycled and repurposed for other building uses). These qualities make a pre-engineered building a durable, green, sustainable and economical option.

While fast track construction technologies were available but not commonly considered in this region, the CoVID pandemic forced companies and builders into a paradigm shift, choosing quick and efficient options with as little workers onsite as possible. Pre-engineered buildings with its precise factory cut-and-fabricate and ready-to-assemble nature became the best alternative as the erector simply assembles perfectly synchronized parts on site, improving construction turnaround and reducing number of workers onsite.

However, in some cases, pre-engineered buildings are no longer an alternative, because it is 100% customized and can be designed for any size, whereas other prefabricated and fast track alternatives could not.
